The public expects and deserves evidence-based practices when it comes to public safety. This is true for any aspect of public policy but perhaps none so much as sex offender policy. With sex offenders, there is a sense of moral outrage at the depravity of their crimes, and rightly so. Virtually any sex crime makes the news headlines because the public has a very high interest in this crime. Too often politicians not only capitalize on the fear that is caused by sex offenders, but they inadvertently create more of it. Full Opinion Piece

Wow another great article.
This guy almost makes me want to move to Massachusetts. He needs to start educating other politicians on the truth!
I think this guy needs more education on this issue. I will however say this; he is ignorant just enough that his thinking may catch on with other equally ignorant flag waving politicians, and that would be a good thing. I think the smartest thing he said was
“The critical element that has been left out is the use of the research.”
I think someone should send him a copy of Alex Landon & Elaine Halleck’s book “A Parallel Universe.” A top notch and well researched book. Then instead of making statements from an emotional standpoint, he could actually display depth and weight; he could talk with the authority of one that is truly educated on the subject.
It’s pretty obvious he needs to do a little more “research.” But he sure does sound good!
I have spoken with this gentleman on a number of occasions and I find him to be very intelligent and unafraid to tackle controversial issues such as ours. Rather than criticize any shortcomings in his writings, being that he has never had to walk our walk nor owes registered citizens anything, I would begin any dialogue with an appreciation for the courage it requires to risk the wrath of haters who might accuse him of being soft on offenders or a lover of… There may come a time in his political career when the opposition throws these writings in his face.
If there is something you might like him to become aware of, you should drop him a respectable email. Now that would be a positive and I would encourage him to please keep writing objectively on this matter.
