Judge Aaron Persky did his job by the book. He selected from all the options provided to him. I do not believe a couple of hot heads should be able to cause such a disturbance and cost to everyone else for their needs. If this Judge Persky was showing any favoritism in his past sentencing, there are agencies that would have taken him out.
I wonder how many of these “50 area activists” are playing around in the closet? Of those ” 50 area activists” would love to have Aaron Persky to be their judge when they are facing prison?
Then this should make every elected Judge fearful of their job if they don’t do the popular thing in the case presented and not the legal by book thing, though a judge can do what they please in the end, e.g. a lighter sentence than what was recommended even.
I don’t agree with lifetime judicial appointments at any level or electing judges at all. Judges appointed to terms, to me, is better for a specific time, e.g. like a cabinet member. I don’t mean for long terms either, e.g. 15 years, but something like six years then renewed if desired, but to two terms only. I realize this would really put the courts in a conundrum with who was appointing judges and how they may judge, but at least it would cause some pause for a recall like this. The appointer could always ask for their resignation since they are serving at the pleasure of the appointer.
This group is looking for long sentences and then some it appears to ensure no one ever survives lockup. What are they going to do if they are successful? Cause more work to be done to get a new judge in the court?
