Sex offender registration policies were initially developed for adults with sexual offenses, but have recently been extended to include youth with sexual offenses as well. At first glance, sex offender registration and notification (hereafter referred to as SORN) may make us feel safer, produce relief knowing that these individuals are being punished. So ….. Under 18, Registry is terrible, harmful and dangerous. 18 or over, Registry is fair, appropriate and important for public safety. One day makes a huge difference, huh? 18th birthday = huge difference. All Registries need to be abolished for everyone.
I have always thought these laws were arbitrary. When the age of consent was 16, there was no harm done sleeping with a 16 or 17 year old person. Now that the age is 18, you get a life sentence.
Is it justice to get a life sentence for being convicted of something that was perfectly legal?
Did anyone notice that she said SORN makes us feel safer, produce relief knowing that these individuals are being PUNISHED. Right in her first sentence. There you have it. If it’s punishment for under 18, it definitely is punishment for over 18
Can someone ask these idiots how exactly is it NOT punishment for someone Over 18?
So everyone under 18 is a clueless little harness child, and on their 18th birthday they are a monster that should be punished for life?
Do people who come up with these idiotic ideas have any friends? I mean really. You have to be a special person to have this screwed up thinking in life. ZERO logic.
When is the first time they charge them as an adult when they are a minor? Would they get the registry then if found guilty?
Instead of criticizing the article’s content here, I wrote a response letter to the author. Most articles reposted here on ACSOL have comment sections or ways to contact author. Air out here, but make sure to let them know how far short they fell in giving the whole story. They can be our voices if used intelligently.
