Wow, this is a very disturbing article. I spent a bit of time secondary to this offense 18-19 years ago. Prior to that, I had never had any legal issues and none since then as well. To say the least, I’m very educated (MBA) and open minded. I was honestly shocked and rather disturbed by some of the things I saw in LA County Jail. I saw people pushed, harassed, talked to disturbingly and a variety of other things from the Sheriffs Deputies. I can only imagine how those facing life or doing life in prison must feel? Furthermore, I have volunteered in the past with Prison Ministries and can honestly feel for (some) of those getting out. California really needs to wake up and realize that throwing people in prison and treating them like animals isn’t the answer. I mean, how do you expect to put someone in prison, treat them like an animal and for them to get released and become a productive member of society? Statistics are against you!

The problem is private, for profit prisons and their lobbying for tougher sentencing guidelines. They have profits and shareholders to take care of. The public interest…not so much.
