Under Jessica’s Law, sex offenders in San Francisco are barred from residing within two thousand feet of any school or park where children regularly gather. Due to San Francisco’s limited size and dense population, it is nearly impossible to find housing outside of this restricted zone. Consequently, the number of homeless sex offenders living in San Francisco has surged since the implementation of the restriction. So this article assumes all sex offenders victims were children.
This is a pretty good article. The author has a grasp of the logical flaws of Jessica’s Law, but doesn’t apply the same logic to Megan’s Law. While it is true that Jessica’s Law makes Megan’s Law less effective, both of them are poor public policy. Both of them were enacted not to solve a public safety problem, but to additionally punish a despised community. The reoffense rate for sex offenders is very low and these post conviction laws do absolutely nothing to reduce them further. They are not intended to reduce them further. They are intended to punish a despised community. The tricky part is to punish the community without calling it punishment. That’s the hard part.
I read that Sacramento is taking little pieces of land and making mini parks. This will be by restaurants, residential, just wherever they have room. What are those called, pocket parks?
My crime involved no kids I tried talking to a woman on the late night and cause she was drunk and high and cried wolf I’m a sex offender now I’m homeless cause I fall under this stupid law and I’m still asking the courts for the evidence report.
